At Brighton Area Schools, we are proud to serve our students, staff and community with a health team of nurses and medical assistants. All of our health team members are licensed or certified through The State of Michigan. In addition to providing first-aid and medical assistance to students and staff, we participate in health planning and health education for the district. We serve as a liaison between home, school and any personnel involved in student health and education to ensure an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.
Medical staff is accepting completed medical forms and medications on an ongoing basis. Parent/guardians are welcomed and encouraged to drop any necessary documentation or supplies off during regular office hours. All student medications that may be required while in school must be provided by a parent/guardian and have an accompanying medication authorization form signed by both a parent/guardian and a health clinician. This includes over-the-counter medications such as TUMS, Aleve, Tylenol, etc.
Medication must be in original packaging.

The State of Michigan requires certain age-related vaccines for public school attendance. Proof of vaccinations, or an immunization waiver, is required upon new enrollment in the district and/or prior to starting Kindergarten and 7th grade. There are two options to ensure vaccine compliance when required:
1. Check with your child's healthcare provider to ensure up to date vaccination status. You may need to schedule an appointment if vaccinations are due.
2. Obtain a vaccination waiver through the local county health department. Waivers are by appointment only and may be scheduled by phone or online via Livingston County Health Department’s website. Please schedule your appointment as soon as possible as spaces are limited and may take some time to complete. Please submit a copy of the updated vaccine record from your child’s healthcare provider, or immunization waiver, to your school’s main office once complete.

In the event two or more communicable diseases are reported to a school within a contagion period and are determined to be directly related to the school setting, parent/guardian(s) will be notified electronically by building administration as soon as possible. Notification letters will include linked information that contains home monitoring information and next steps if warranted.
Please make sure parent/guardian contact information is up to date and accurate in your student’s MISTAR ParentConnection electronic profile and that at least one adult email address is available for communication purposes.
